Another option for those that are struggling with a panic attack of other causes of hyperventilation is simply to try and calm back down. Easier said than done, sure.
However, if you focus on reflecting on the thoughts that led to your panic, then you can address each one and try to reason your way out of it. This is the central concept behind CBT and it is something that many people have had a lot of success with.
