4. Rotator cuff injuries and tears
Rotator cuff injuries and tears are common injuries. They can occur while playing sports, lifting weights, or even at work. The rotator cuff can be torn if it is overworked or overstretched. The tear can become worse as time goes on if it is not treated. The best way to treat the issue is to rest the shoulder. Some people wear a sling to help support the shoulder and make it so it doesn’t need to be used.
Pain medications can also help ease the pain. While rest can help most rotator cuff injuries and tears heal quickly, some do require surgery. Once a person suffers from a torn rotator cuff they are more likely to suffer the same injury again. Some do not every full heal and are at risk for injury at any time. Stretching the shoulders before lifting weights or playing sports can help reduce the chances of injuring the rotator cuff.
