5. Adhesive Capsulitis
Adhesive capsulitis is a condition that occurs when scar tissue grows on or around the joints in the shoulder. It is sometimes called frozen shoulder syndrome because it prevents the shoulder from moving properly and can cause it to appear stuck or frozen. The condition usually occurs after an injury prevents the shoulder from having a full range of motion.
When the shoulder can’t move properly it gives the scar tissue a chance to grow in place. This causes the ligaments and tendons to shorten to the length they can reach or only need to reach. This can lead to permanent damage that may not be reversible. Some people learn to live with limited mobility and others request surgery to help fix the issue so they can use their shoulders again. Surgery can sometimes lead to more serious cases of scar tissue and can make the problem worse or call it to be a reoccurring issue.
