3. Tendon sheath inflammation
Ligaments connect bones and muscles in the shoulders but can easily be stretched and pulled too far. When this happens, they can tear or rip. Tendons attached to the ligaments can become inflamed and swollen. This leads to pressure on the nerves in the shoulders and can cause severe pain.
Tendon sheath inflammation is usually caused by overworking the areas or using them too much. These injuries are common in athletes and weightlifters. Medications can be prescribed to help relax the muscles around the ligaments and tendons to help reduce inflammation and pain. Stretching and resting the areas can also provide some relief.
In some cases, surgery is necessary to correct the problem and get rid of the pain completely. This injury is one that can reoccur because of the continuous use of the shoulder that is affected. Some people need to avoid certain activities to avoid continuously aggravating the injury.
