5. Controlled Breathing
When you aren’t feeling well and are experiencing nausea, you may struggle to breathe properly. You may feel your stomach churning and start breathing rapidly. This can cause nausea to be worse. Controlling your breathing might help it go away. Take deep breaths through your nose and out your mouth. This can work if you are nauseous because of something that is around you, such as a food that you have an aversion to or a bad smell. It can also help if you get nauseous while traveling or moving in a vehicle, plane, or on an amusement park ride.
If there is a more serious cause of nausea, such as a stomach virus, or another time of illness, controlled breathing may not be helpful.
Controlled breathing also helps by taking your mind off the feeling. You focus more on your breathing pattern and less on your nausea or the cause of it.
