Anemia is a condition on its own, though is almost always a symptom that you need to have something else that’s wrong with your health fixed. What’s the cause behind anemia? Here are ten of the most common causes for anemia so that you will know what to watch out for if it should ever happen to you.

1. Pregnancy

You will have almost surely heard the expression that a pregnant woman is eating for two – and this is a true fact about pregnancy: Once you are a mother to be, your dietary needs change immediately – and you will have to up your consumption of healthy things because you suddenly have dietary needs that will affect the health of your baby as soon as they are born.

Simply, being pregnant draws a lot of nutrients and minerals from your body to support the growth of a new life – and this can very easily led to anemia, the first signs of which will manifest as tiredness and feeling weak – you might also be more pale than usual as a result. The first step to changing this is to up the consumption or iron in your diet or to speak to your doctor about taking some supplements that can increase your body’s iron levels.
