10 Fascinating Asparagus Benefits

Asparagus is one of the healthiest foods out there; the name itself comes from the Greek word meaning “shoot”, and we have evidence that asparagus has been cultivated and part of the human diet for thousands of years already; it makes a great addition to many meals, and you can find asparagus either in fresh or usually bottled form at most supermarkets.

Look for whole asparagus spears if you are planning a big meal; these have the highest nutrient content and are most likely to contain the tops. Asparagus pieces are sometimes a way for manufacturers to hide lower quality batches of asparagus by chopping them up.

You can add asparagus to a salad, soup, pasta and almost any other dish you can possibly think of. Just look up “asparagus recipes” for more. Here are 10 fascinating health benefits of asparagus – and some great reasons why it should be part of your diet every day.

1. Loaded with Vitamins

Asparagus is an extremely high source of plenty of essential vitamins. Most people don’t get enough nutrients through their daily diet because the foods we’re eating simply aren’t the same as the foods we had access to ten or twenty years ago: This is why foods are fortified nowadays, and why people often have to take supplements to improve their diet.

Among others, asparagus contains plenty of Vitamin B6, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, and Vitamin K – and that’s just the vitamins that asparagus contains, there is even more nutritional good stuff contained in asparagus that includes folic acid, iron and fiber. Simply put, asparagus is loaded with the vitamins you need, and you’ll give your immune system a huge boost simply by including asparagus in your daily diet.

This doesn’t mean that you can get away without supplements, though: A great, general multivitamin is recommended for staying healthy. Ask your pharmacist what they recommend.
