Unlike the different sorts of arthrosis, like rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis, bursitis isn’t more frequently find among the elderly population. Instead, it usually affects athletes or people who do high impact exercises often. Bursae are small bags of liquid that cushion different tissues, such as muscles and bones, and reduce the friction when they move. However, excessive strain or impact can overstress these bursae and as a result they get inflamed and start hurting.
Bursitis is the painful condition caused by the overuse of bursae. Preventing bursitis is easy, and most measures you can take are centered around performing your physical exercises properly, especially if you do high impact activities like jumping, running and competitive swimming. Warming up before exercise and cooling down afterward help protect your bursae. Also, run-on proper surfaces and use good shoes to reduce the impact of running on your joints. Get proper rest and slow down on your exercises if you notice joint pain.
