14. Difficulty breathing
In the most advanced stages of ALS, patients can start to have a difficult time breathing. Again, this because of the muscle movement and the ability to control the muscles that are responsible for moving the lungs and chest, both of which are vital for breathing. Difficulty breathing usually occurs quite a while after ALS has been diagnosed. When this stage occurs, breathing devices can help to improve a patient’s quality of life.
