10. Treats Wounds and Skin Conditions
Since the ancient times of Romans, Greeks, and Egyptians chamomile has been used to promote healing and treat wounds. Chamomile ointments are said to be effective in treating eczema, psoriasis, skin irritations, bruises, burns, canker sores, and other mild inflammatory skin conditions. It is also known to treat diaper rash and cracked nipples. However, they are not as effective as hydrocortisone cream.
The anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties that contribute to hastening the healing process of the skin stems from an antioxidant found in the chamomile called Matricaria chamomilla. Chamomile tea is very versatile in terms of usage. Besides drinking it as a beverage, the tea bag can be moistened and applied to the affected area. The essential oils will eventually seep out and absorbed by the skin. Other alternatives are applying a chamomile balm or a paste made from the dried flowers of chamomile.
