5. Food Allergies/Intolerants
Food allergies are often expected to cause very nasty and serious reactions that can sometimes be life-threatening. But, there are some food allergies that can only make you feel a little uncomfortable in the stomach and pass a lot of gas than usual. Food intolerances that are common causes of bloating and excess gas are those that contain lactose, mainly dairy products.
The Mayo Clinic listed dairy products amongst the common gas-producing foods that cause bloating. Limiting their intake will decrease the uncomfortable swollen stomach feeling. The main problem is not the ‘milk’, but the deficiency of lactase enzyme responsible for breaking down lactose (milk sugar).
If lactase fails to fully process lactose, the unprocessed sugars go through the digestive system and pull water into the gut, thereby causing excess gas and discomfort in the stomach. However, lactose-intolerant people can eat other dairy products that contain low lactose.
