5. Prostatitis
Prostatitis refers to several different types of bacterial infections, all of which cause a direct bacterial infection and associated inflammation of the prostate. This is an extremely common health condition, especially in older men, and it’s estimated that as much as 50% of men will have at least one instance of prostatitis at some point in their life.
Symptoms of prostatitis can include painful urination and changes in the pattern of frequency – either urinating less or more often than you normally would. Pain or discomfort during ejaculation is also a common symptom, and there is a large section of prostatitis cases that will present with lower back pain.
This is because the urinary system and prostate are so closely tied to much of your body; and symptoms of the one will inevitably affect the other. If you suspect that you might have prostatitis, visit your doctor: The condition can be treated when it’s spotted in time – if not, you’re putting yourself at risk of developing related cancers.
