15 Most Common Symptoms of Spider Bites

A fear of spiders, or arachnophobia, is very common. It’s not hard to understand why so many people are afraid of arachnids. They have eight legs, a bunch of eyes, spin webs, crawl quickly, and can move into any space without being welcomed.

While a spider’s appearance can certainly be scary, the truth is that most are harmless. In fact, these little guys actually do a lot of good. They eat other bugs, like mosquitoes and flies, which are not only annoying, but can also spread disease. However, while the majority of spiders are harmless, there are some that can be dangerous. The brown recluse and the black widow, for example, produce venom that is toxic to human beings. And, even spiders that aren’t generally considered harmless could cause side effects if they bite someone who is allergic to them.

If you start to develop strange symptoms and you have been in an area where spiders are known to live, such as the woods, you may have been bitten. What types of signs indicate a spider has sunk its teeth into you? Read on to find out 15 of the most common symptoms associated with spider bites.

1. An allergic reaction

If you have an allergy to spiders, an allergic reaction is one of the first symptoms you will notice if you have been bitten by one. This reaction may appear as a rash around the area where the spider made contact with its teeth. You could also develop a fever, as well as the chills. If you notice that you are having an allergic reaction and you suspect that the cause is a spider bite, it’s important to seek medical attention as soon as possible. There is a chance that the reaction could be deadly and you will need to receive prompt treatment to avoid a serious problem.
