3. Cough
A cough is another symptom of the flu. It’s a way for the body to try to get rid of something that is invading it. The cough may be dry or may produce mucus, depending on the severity of the flu. A cough is usually one of the earliest signs that you are coming down with an illness or infection.
Most people don’t seek medical attention for a cough unless it becomes severe or lasts for a long time. Some people wait until they experience other symptoms before they see a doctor. Coughs can also spread the flu virus to other people.
If you have the flu and are experiencing a cough, you should always cover your mouth with a tissue or cloth. This will prevent mucus from leaving the body and attaching to things or traveling through the air where they could make other people sick. Also, be sure to wash your hands.
