5. Degenerative Disc Disease
It is relatively normal for the discs in our spine to degenerate over time as we get older. This is not a nice thought, but unfortunately it is the case.
However, some of us will experience more extreme degeneration affecting one or several discs in the lower back. The condition is diagnosed if the weakened discs cause excessive ‘micro-motion’ around the spine. This will then cause inflammatory proteins from within the disc to become exposed, which in turn will irritate the nerve roots in the area.
