6. Tardive Dyskinesia
Tardive dyskinesia (also called oral tardive dyskinesia or TD) is a condition usually caused by antipsychotic and anticonvulsant medication. Symptoms of this condition occurring can include involuntary muscle twitches, usually displayed in the face, and symptoms of the condition can also turn out to be permanent if enough damage has been done.
The primary treatment options for tardive dyskinesia are changing the medication which the patient is taking – or lowering the medication’s dosage to the point where the symptoms are no longer severe. This can sometimes interfere with treatment options, and it’s important for an alternative to this treatment to be found.
One treatment that has shown a lot of promise in treating the symptoms associated with tardive dyskinesia is the inclusion on small doses of BCAA’s, along with general supplements such as magnesium or an excellent multivitamin.
If you suspect that you are having trouble with tardive dyskinesia, make an appointment with your doctor and speak to the dispensing pharmacist.
