Yeast infections are quite common. One place that yeast likes to target is the genitals. When yeast infections occur in the genitals it can cause itching, pain, and discharge. Women are prone to getting genital yeast infections. About 75 percent of women have experienced a yeast infection during their lifetime.  Men can also get genital yeast infections.

One of the most common causes of these types of infections is Candida Albicans, which is a type of yeast. There are other types of yeasts that can cause these infections as well. Different remedies work for different people and it might take some trial and error in order to determine which one will work best to treat the type of yeast infection you have. 

1. Over the Counter Medications

There are numerous antifungal treatments that can be purchased over the counter to treat a yeast infection. You do not need a prescription in order to purchase one of these remedies. They can be found at any pharmacy or drug store, the grocery store, or a department store. There are different types of these medications available. Some are used externally and others are used internally.

They can be used to treat the infection with a single application, a three-day application, or a weeklong application. The treatments that are applied internally are typically the most effective. It has been shown that these products cure almost eighty percent of vaginal yeast infections.

These products contain azoles, which are powerful antifungals. The external creams will often cure minor yeast infections and also help with the itching and pain that comes with this type of infection.
