5. Sensitivity to Light
A person that has meningitis may experience extreme sensitivity to light. This is called photophobia. This sensitivity to light may result in eye pain, squinting, and difficulty seeing in bright lights or sunlight. This can result in headaches that are migraine-like. Many of the symptoms of meningitis will come on quickly, often within just a few hours of being exposed to the fungi, bacteria, or virus.
Sometimes it takes one or two days for the symptoms to appear. Sensitivity to light is considered to be one of the earlier signs of meningitis. This means that if you suddenly develop a sensitivity to light you need to consider some of the other signs and symptoms of the disease it is important to get to your doctor right away. You want to catch this disease as soon as possible before things become worse. Early treatment is extremely important when it comes to any type of meningitis.
