16 Most Common Low Estrogen Symptoms

There are many reasons that a person may suffer from low estrogen. For some people, it is simply a genetic disposition. Other people may have low levels of estrogen because of a thyroid disorder, have ovarian cysts, or because they have gone through radiation or chemotherapy. If you have a low amount of body fat from either exercising too much or not eating enough, you may also develop low estrogen levels.

Having low estrogen simply means that the levels of this particular hormone are lower when compared to the other hormones within the body. The level of estrogen in a person will vary greatly. For this reason, it is important to know how your levels of estrogen have changed over time instead of the actual amount that is measured. It is also important to know some of the symptoms of low estrogen levels as this can cause many side effects. Here are some common low estrogen symptoms.

1. You Know Longer Have a Period

Perhaps the most common symptom of having low amounts of estrogen is not having a period any longer or having periods that are super light. When it comes to your menstrual cycle, estrogen is one of the main drivers. A low amount of estrogen can make your period lighter than normal and it can even make it disappear. The reason this happens is that estrogen is what causes the uterine lining to become thicker each month.

If there is not enough estrogen, the uterine lining will not thicken, and if it does not thicken it will not shed, which is what occurs when you have your period. If the amount of estrogen within your body remains low, your uterine lining may not become thick enough to shed at all or if it does, your period may be light and not last very long.
