Cataracts can be an extremely debilitating condition that can cause major problems in someone\u2019s life. Cataracts do not happen to everyone, but many people suffer from this condition and they are usually caused by aging. A cataract is simply a discoloration of the eye lens, which causes certain specific symptoms that can alert a person as to their condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some people get surgery with an artificial lens placed in to correct the problem, while other people live with it by avoiding smoking and getting stronger glasses or contact prescription \u2013 or by wearing sunglasses. These are temporary solutions though, so if you have cataracts, you are probably going to need surgery eventually. Changes in vision can be a sign of cataracts<\/a>. In fact, changes in vision are often the very first sign that you will notice. This change in vision can really be anything. If you notice yourself seeing things a little differently than you normally do, and the condition persists, then you may want to look into cataracts. If you are over the age of 65, then you definitely should be seeking advice from your doctor to find out what is causing your change in vision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cataracts are not the only explanation for a change in vision, but it is a pretty common one. 5. Difficulty Seeing at Night<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

If you have difficulty seeing at night, it could be a sign of cataracts. What most people notice is problems with driving when it starts to get dark. If you notice that you are having trouble seeing street signs or roadway signs that you normally had no problem seeing before, then you may want to get checked out. Some people also have trouble with faces which is an indication that you do not need to be driving to see. Some people have trouble recognizing familiar faces at night when they have cataracts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you have these symptoms<\/a>, then you definitely want to talk to your doctor and find out whether the difficulty seeing at night is due to cataracts or some other eye problem, but you do not want to keep driving because it could be dangerous. Seeing halos might mean a religious experience, but it is much more likely a sign of cataracts. They halo happening around people, but the flares and glare happen when you look at bright lights or other objects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both of these can be pretty indicative of cataracts because there isn\u2019t too much else that can cause this sort of effect. Plus, there really distinctive and cannot be confused with other symptoms easily. If you are experiencing a glare when you look at things or a halo around people\u2019s bodies or heads, then talk to your doctor and get tested. The diagnosis for cataracts is not difficult to get, because the tests that your doctor performs are really easy and noninvasive. You can get a diagnosis after a single visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

7. Sensitivity to Bright Lights<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

People with cataracts often have a sensitivity to bright lights as well. For example, you may notice that your eyes hurt when you first turn on the lights in a room. In addition to that, it will take longer for your eyes to get used to that bright light and adjust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The good news is, this is something that you should be able to discern quite easily because you are so used to the amount of time it takes your eyes to adjust or the sensitivity to light that you normally have. The best way to test this and find out if you have this particular sensitivity to bright lights is to start from a completely dark room and let your eyes <\/a>adjust to being in that dark room for a few minutes and then turn on a really bright light. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

8. Needing New Glasses or Contacts More Often<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Another early warning sign is needing new glasses or contacts more often than you normally do. One of the major symptoms of cataracts is reduced vision in certain areas or poorer vision overall. If you find yourself needing a stronger glasses prescription, then you might want to go talk to your doctor and find out if you have cataracts before you pay for another pair of glasses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although you may opt to use stronger glasses as an alternative for surgery<\/a>, it is not going to be a permanent solution. Eventually, you\u2019re going to have to have surgery to correct the problem because it will just continue to get worse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Another early warning sign is something that you should be looking at anyway, but it happens before your first cataract ever starts to form.
