Many public figures have been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and died from it such as Bonnie Franklin, Steve Jobs, and Patrick Swayze. There are many symptoms that can be detected to tell whether or not you may have pancreatic cancer. Once diagnosed with pancreatic cancer within five years there is a good chance of death. The pancreas secretes insulin and enzymes into the small intestine. Once there, it will continue breaking down food in your stomach. The pancreas regulates the body’s glucose level or sugar levels. so most people who have pancreatic cancer may also have diabetes.

Pancreatic cancer has affected over 53,000 people who were diagnosed with it in the world. Because of the five year expected survival period after diagnosis, only 10,000 are expected to survive.Every year the number of pancreatic cancer victims is increasing. By picking up a few of the most important signs that present themselves when you develop pancreatic cancer you can catch it early before it becomes a major problem.

1. Jaundice, or the yellowing of the eyes and skin

Even the smallest of tumors located in the pancreas can block the bile ducts and most of the pancreas in the process. This bile that builds up, can, in turn, cause jaundice. Jaundice as you may already know, is caused by the buildup of bilirubin under the skin and throughout the rest of the body. Bilirubin is a waste material that builds up in the blood and has no way to escape the body.

Jaundice of the body usually won’t show up until the pancreatic tumor has become a bigger issue in your body, but in some cases it may show up even earlier. You may find that a friend notices you look very yellow, possibly on the skin or maybe just in your eye color.

Then when you go and get it checked out by your general practitioner, on further inspection he may notice that you developed a tumor in your pancreas besides just having jaundice. Thankfully since we caught it in its early stages, it may be possible to reverse it or find another solution.

2. Lack Of Appetite

If you find that you may not be as hungry as you usually are and you don’t eat for many hours at a time, This could also be a sign that you have pancreatic cancer or another tumor growing around your abdominal area. a study found That there was a large drop in appetite and tendency to feel extremely full after having a small meal when there was a presence of a tumor in the abdomen, specifically in the pancreatic area.

The reason this is so is because this tumor that is developing is putting pressure on all the surrounding organs, which includes your stomach. In doing so, you won’t feel as hungry, and you won’t feel like eating as much in the process. As you read further through this article, You’ll notice that this comes up many other times in a few other different scenarios.

3. Abdominal pain

If you have developed a tumor on your pancreas, then you may feel a rather sharp sort of cramp kind of pain rather than an ache that radiates to the back. You’ll feel it just below your breastbone, just above your abdomen. If you can imagine, place the tip of your finger at that exact point, then all the way back to your back, all the way to the spine.

That’s where most of the pain from a tumor diagnosed in the pancreas has said to have originated. The pain is dull at first, but it is also internal and radiates to all sides of your abdomen. The reason why cancerous tumors such as this cause so much pain in the abdomen is because the same tumor is pressing on all your internal organs.

As the tumor gets much larger and grows rapidly, it begins to press on the nerves and start causing severe back pain in the same region. The best thing to do to fix this abdominal pain issue, and find out if you do have a tumor whether malignant or benign is to contact your general practitioner in your local area.

4. Different Stool

Have you ever gotten a smelly floating stool? Maybe it’s not smelly, Maybe it’s just dark or Tarry stools? This could be a sign that you have pancreatic cancer. The reason your stool is like this is that the pancreatic tumors interfere with your digestive enzymes in your body from reaching your intestines to digest fatty foods.

In the end, you have smelly floating stool due to the excess fat. Having stools like this is one of the most overlooked symptoms in particular. If you have dark tarry stools instead it means that you may have bleeding in the upper intestines. Pancreatic cancer also causes diarrhea and even in some cases constipation, and it would be even worse if you’re over the age of 60 and develop this. These tools are also known to carry with it bad gas.

5. Enlarged Gallbladder

One thing your doctor may check for is an enlarged gallbladder. Thankfully this is something that would show up on an MRI or a CT scan. The same blockage that we saw in the bile duct That caused jaundice, also makes your gallbladder grow in size. this is because all that bile is building up overtime behind the duct and clogging it.

Unfortunately having enlarged gallbladder means that other symptoms will appear as well such as nausea, fever, loose stool, chills, vomiting, and even severe abdominal cramping similar to menstrual cramping. If you haven’t already gotten your gallbladder checked to see whether it is enlarged, but you suspect that you may have a tumor in your abdominal region, then it is best to check with your general practitioner to have an MRI or CT scan performed.

6. Sudden unexplained weight loss

If you have sudden unexplained weight loss it can also be due to pancreatic cancer, especially if that is unexplained weight loss is accompanied by no exercise or Diet to justify it. This is because there is a lack of pancreatic enzymes to help the fat passing the body and be digested. Unexplained weight loss is also linked to an unexplained loss in appetite.

One good way to tell whether or not the weight loss may be due to pancreatic cancer or some sort of tumor being present in your body is by checking to see if you have lost 5% or more of your body fat in a short amount of time. If you are losing this much weight between 6 months to a year. You may also remember above that I mentioned that your tumor could be putting pressure on your internal organs especially your stomach that would prevent you from wanting to eat more.

7. Itchy skin, palms and you also feel itchy on the soles

If you find that you have itchy skin, palms and you also feel itchy on the soles of your feet this may be one of the small side effects of your jaundice that is due to a pancreatic cancer. This reaction is due to bilirubin which is the yellowish-brown waste found in the liver that causes jaundice. With this kind of itchy skin, it’s more yellow instead of the red that you would probably imagine it would be. The reason this is so is because the bilirubin is directly under the skin.

Another thing you will seem to find is that you feel more fatigued and that you have additional abdominal pain due to this bilirubin underneath the skin that is causing the itching of your skin palms and soles of feet. This is all because of the same bilirubin build up under the skin, AKA the jaundice, since your body can’t excrete all this extra chemical waste present in your body.

8. Diabetes

and pancreatic cancer go hand-in-hand in almost every case that has been performed. They found that these pancreatic tumors were the cause of diabetes. The problem is to detect whether or not the tumor is based on the diabetes, and this is where many doctors have a problem diagnosing. The reason this is so, would surprise you.

It’s simply because diabetes is very common amongst many older adults, and many people in the United States who have diabetes don’t necessarily have pancreatic cancer at all. What’s ended up happening, is that doctors are trying to create different kinds of tools to screen a patient to be able to pick up on this tumor if they have diabetes Or to be able to separate these two conditions from each other. Some people think that looking back through your family history is one of the best ways to determine whether or not diabetes and pancreatic tumors would go hand-in-hand in your case.

9. Tastes changed

Last but not least, many patients noted that their tastes changed a lot. This means that many of the favorite food items they used to have weren’t their favorites anymore. Many of their fondest tastes such as coffee, smoking, and even wine will completely lost after developing the pancreatic tumor. Literally just thinking about any of these just for a few seconds, even their favorite candies and pastries made him feel disgusted and want to vomit.

The change is extremely dramatic happens in the fairly short period of time, so if you feel this change along with some of the other signs and symptoms found throughout this document it may be worth taking a trip down to your local general practitioner or oncologist to check whether or not you have a tumor in your pancreas. It’s been found that most of these symptoms present themselves at the same time as each other.
