2. Defining Fatty Liver
Have you ever seen photographs of a healthy liver before? How about pictures of an unhealthy liver instead? Most people have been lucky enough to see this through some form of media – the internet and TV have thousands of medical shows that will give you a pretty good idea of what a liver should and shouldn’t look like. Just in case you have never seen one on TV, you will likely have seen an animal liver – think of beef liver – instead; again, we can say that you more or less know what a liver looks like, and you know what the tissue looks like.
Right? Okay: So we’d like you to imagine that the finer tissues of the liver are covered with tiny, tiny bits of fat – what looks like white globules of fat in between the liver’s tissue. When we’re talking about a fatty liver, it’s fat-deposits that have settled themselves in the liver.
