7 Most Common Norovirus Symptoms

Norovirus is extremely contagious and anyone can be infected by it. You may get it from water or food or from a person who was infected with it. You can also get it from touching surfaces that have been contaminated. Norovirus causes inflammation throughout the digestive system including the intestines and the stomach. This can cause many different symptoms within your body.

The symptoms can be serious for some groups of people including the very young and the elderly. Most people have had some type of experience with the norovirus. It is a quite common illness and can even be a source of food poisoning as you can get it from eating food that is contaminated. It does not matter how you contract the virus, the results are always the same. Here are seven of the most common symptoms to expect if you have been infected with the norovirus.

1. Vomiting

One of the ways that you can tell that you have contracted the norovirus is that you begin vomiting. This symptom will typically start within just 12 hours of being in contact with the virus. In some cases, it may take up to 48 hours for the vomiting to begin. When you have been exposed to Norovirus you may vomit for anywhere from one to three days. This depends on many different factors including your personal immune system.

The norovirus affects the digestive system and can make eating and even drinking difficult. Most people will have these symptoms for 24 to 72 hours. If the symptoms persist for longer than this it may be a worse condition or it could be that your body is simply still struggling to fight off of the virus. Most people will make a full recovery from the virus in just a few days.
