3. Keep a healthy weight
Just as it happens with a healthy diet, a balanced body weight will help your overall health, not just your heart, so there are always many good reasons to lose a few pounds if you are over your reccommended weight.
Being overweight puts too much physical stress on your body, your own flesh compresses your organs, your joints and your blood vessels, and your heart is no exception. Excessive fat in your system makes your blood thicker and can even partially block your veins or arteries; all of this puts extra effort on your heart, which is forced to beat more strongly and might develop an arrhythmia as a result. A healthy diet and a good exercise program should help you lose your extra weight.
