4. A stitch
This type of stomach pain is usually felt on the side. It’s usually associated with an intense stabbing sensation right around the lower portion of the ribs, and it comes on suddenly. Stitches often occur while exercising, which is why they are also known as exercise-related transient abdominal pain.
This pain can be so severe that it feels as if internal organs have been damaged. However, that is not the case. While the exact cause of a stomach stitch is unknown, it is believed to be the result of increased blood flow to the spleen or the liver.
Slowing down, breathing deeply and stretching can help alleviate this type of stomach pain.
