
2. Family History
There are many different potential causes for asthma and it is not fully known what causes the condition in most cases. However, it is very common for asthma – as with other allergies and sensitivities – to have a genetic component. This means that if your parents are asthmatic, then you will stand a greater chance of being asthmatic as well.
Likewise, if you have a family history of atopic conditions – allergies with hypersensitivity reactions – then this will similarly make you more likely to experience asthma attacks or similar. If you go and get checked up by your doctor, then they may ask about your family history.
That said, genetics is only one possible explanation and won’t always be responsible. In many cases, asthma appears to have no genetic link whatsoever.
