14 Shoulder Pain Causes

Shoulder pain is common and it can come and go or last for long periods of time. Every time you move your arms, neck, or back, your shoulder is affected. Shoulder injuries and pain can be hard to deal with because it’s almost impossible to avoid using your shoulders. Understanding shoulder pain and finding the right treatment depends on the cause of the pain.

Injuries, diseases, and temporary conditions can all cause shoulder pain. Sometimes the cause is easy to determine but other times it takes a lot of tests and X-rays to figure out the cause of the pain. Most people deal with shoulder pain when they first notice it, which can help reduce the severity of an injury and cut down recovery time. Pain medications, physical therapy, and surgery are all options for treating various types of shoulder problems. Here are some of the most common causes of shoulder pain.

1. Stress

Stress affects people differently. Some people have emotional issues caused by stress and others can feel it physically. Many people carry stress in their shoulders. It can feel like tight muscles or sore nerves.

Massages can help loosen the muscles in the shoulder and improve the pain. Dealing with stress in positive ways can also help relieve the physical pain of stress. If your shoulder pain is caused by stress, you can also try treating the physical pain directly. Arrange for massages, find ways to relax your muscles, take hot baths, or soak in a hot tub when possible to loosen muscles and reduce pain.

It’s also important to deal with the cause of your stress. Try to reduce your demands so you do not feel overwhelmed by responsibilities at work, school, or in your personal life. Be sure to take some time to relax when possible to help reduce your stress levels.
