14 Causes of Heel Spur

2. Bruising

Bruising is one of the main causes of heel spurs. Though it may sound strange for a bruise to cause a spur, the repeated trauma can cause them to develop. A stone bruise is one of the most common that are responsible for the development of heel spurs. Stone bruises are most often seen in athletes and runners. Running and other athletic activities cause bruises to the fatty tissue, fibrous tissue and heal pad located just under the heel bone.

The pad of the heel works as a shock absorber which keeps your heel bone safe as your foot strikes the ground. Bruises develop when a person suffers some form of traumatic heel impact either from jumping, running, falling or another activity. The heel pad wears down which allows bruises to form more easily while also offering less protection. When the heel has less protection, calcium deposits form as a response with turns into a heel spur.
