
3. Rectal Bleeding
Rectal bleeding is of course blood from the rectum. This can show up as blood in the stool that can vary significantly in severity depending on the severity and the nature of the inflammation and the ulcers.
In terms of the color, you should find that the blood appears to be red, pink, or tan in hue. This is important, as the color of the stool is a good clue as to how deep inside it is coming from. If the blood is a much darker, almost black color, then this can be a sign of a more serious problem and might even be cancer. Very red blood, on the other hand, is more likely to come from the outside or near the outside – this is more likely to be caused by something like hemorrhoids for instance.
Don’t be immediately alarmed if you see blood in your stool. Assess the color and the nature of that blood and think about what other symptoms might be telling you about the cause.
